Description
First presented at the OPSO 2020 conference (9/19/2020) OPSO is pleased to offer this CME program on-demand. In this program Mark Baldwin, DO, presents COVID-19 and the implications for the kidney.
The objectives for this course are:
– Understand the at risk groups for COVID-19 infection, mortality, and morbidity
– Understand the common clinical manifestation and clinical course for patients with COVID019 infection
– Understand the role of the ACE 2 receptor in infection
– Understand the role of the systemic anti0inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) in generating the “cytokine storm” and its role in acute kidney injury
– Understand the role of treatments
The Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of Oregon is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of 1.0 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.

Faculty
Dr. Baldwin graduated from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences – College of Osteopathic Medicine (KCU-COM) in 1983. He completed a rotating internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine – Midwestern University and a fellowship in Renal Disease and Hypertension at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. Baldwin is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine and as a Medical Examiner by the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners. He is also certified as a Specialist in Clinical Hypertension by the American Society of Hypertension.
During his twenty-plus years in private practice in Columbus, Ohio, he was actively involved in all medical education levels. He developed and taught the renal curriculum at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine for fifteen years. Dr. Baldwin is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine in Yakima, Washington. He is involved in research on chronic kidney disease in agricultural workers and has received numerous teaching awards.
